Myanmar military leader confident in junta’s roadmap
THAILAND : -- Myanmar visiting armed forces leader hailed the roadmap of the National Council for Peace and Order with confidence that it will lead to success.
The Myanmar leader Gen Min Aung Hlaing voiced his confidence as he met his Thai counterpart Gen Tanasak Patimapragorn Friday during his visit to Thailand.
Gen Tanasak said the visiting guest has said he has confidence in the Thai armed forces as they were duty-bound to maintain national security and ensure safety for the public.
He told Gen Min Aung Hlaing that all Myanmar workers in Thailand would be taken well care of as the junta is implementing a policy to end the use of illegal migrants and to legalize their status in Thailand.
Thailand pledged deepening cooperation with Myanmar at all levels including defense relations, strengthening border ties, an exchange of military personnel and the participation of Myanmar in the joint military drill Cobra Gold this year, according to a statement released after the meeting.
The military junta established the first center to register illegal workers from Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia in Samut Sakhon province on Monday.
Similar one-stop centers are due to be opened in all provinces by mid-July as part of the policy to end the illegal, lucrative business of trafficking in foreign labor.
Thailand has an estimated 2.2 million foreign workers, most of them from Myanmar and Cambodia.
The Thailand Development Research Institute estimated some illegal workers are in the country.
