Thai elephant poison tusks thieves


Ayutthaya : 11 july 2014 Lopburi river in Ayutthaya province Friday morning a male elephant 50-years old was poisoned to death and its tusks sawn off.

 The elephant was found dead near the river in Ayutthaya.

It was manipulated and chained to a tree beside the river in Moo 6 village of Ban Koh sub-district.

Police said theft were more than three persons while the owner of the Royal Elephant Kraal Laithongrian Meephan said the thieves were not professional judging from the tusks they cut.

The killers might be teenagers or drug addicts within the place evaluating from the tusks they cut off not right at their base he said. pair of beautiful tusks with base to be valued 4-5 million baht, he added.

Ayutthaya police asked the veterinarian to conduct autopsy to find what kind of poison was used to kill the elephant so they could have traces to find out the thieves.
