NBTC to distribute Coupons for digital TV in September
THAILAND : National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) proposed to start handing out 1,000-baht coupons to consumers to be used to purchase set-top boxes to receive digital TV broadcasts, said secretary-general Thakorn Tanthasit.
He added that the request of seven billion baht fund from the NCPO was in line with the NCPO’s announcement that all the revenues generated by the NBTC from the auction to lease out 24 digital TV spectrum would have to be returned to the state coffers.
The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has the sum of 50,862 million baht in revenues from the auction of 24 digital TV spectrum of which the first instalment of payment amounting to 11,162 million baht have been received with the rest to be received in five years. The second instalment of 8,124 million baht to be received on the second year, 8,653 million baht for the third and fourth instalments and 7,134 million baht each for the fifth and sixth instalments.
He said the NBTC would have to get approval from National Council for Peace and Order for its scheduled budget of seven billion baht to fund the coupon distribution programme for seven million households in the initial stage.
