Suthep ordained as monk



Surat Thani  : The  People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) secretary general Suthep Thaugsuban was ordained as monk on Tuesday at Wat Thasai in Muang district of Surat Thani Tuesday.

Phra Suthep, who was given the monastic name “Prapakaro” (the one with the enlightened mind), entered monkhood in a simple ceremony arranged with Alongkorn Setcheao, Phra Suthep’s cousin, was the only relative present.

Eyewitness says he  seen walking out of the temple for alms from residents  this morning at Wat Suan Mokkh.

Phra Athikarnsuchart Panyatheeto, said he was noticed by Phra Prapakaro’s cousin who said the protest leader intended to become a monk.

Phra Suthep ordination was a surprise to many people, including his wife, Srisakul Prompan, who claimed she had no idea of Phra Suthep’s plans to enter the monkhood.

Phra Suthep said he was ordained as a gesture to make merit for the 22 people who lost their lives  during the PDRC’s seven-month street protests since November last year till May this year.
