NCPO announce Omsin as new SRT chairman



BANGKOK :  The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has elected former Thailand Post president Omsin Cheevapruek as the new  chairman of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT).


Mrs Soithip Traisut, the transport ministry’s permanent secretary said  former Thailand Post president Omsin  has been picked  by the NCPO to act as the SRT chairman, replacing Mr Boonsom Lerthiranwong.

The change came up after the incident in which a 13- year-old girl was raped and killed on the train on board.

She reported that the tragedy occurred  because  train security staff neglected their nightly patrol, for safety among passengers, the DRT must intensify all safety procedures, starting from the screening of job applicants to security operations on board.

NCPO Chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha issued  effective and  immediate dismiss on Thursday night to  SRT governor  Prapat Chongsa-nguan from office.
