Police proposed forensic science council

BANGKOK - The Royal Thai Police (RTP) may propose the setting up of a forensic science council, to curb criticism that police may tamper with evidence to aid wrongdoers.

Pol Gen Jaramporn Suramanee, an adviser to RTP who initiated the idea, said the plan was being considered and discussed with forensic academics and related agencies.

He said the council would set a good standard of personnel, labs and other related matters so as to maximise the efficiency of forensic science works, and thus help case investigations to be just, checkable and transparent.

The council could also eradicate public criticism over alleged evidence tampering as the council would enable other people in the sector to partake in forensic works, not just police.
