Gangs are expected to resume violence the last ten days of Ramadan



THAILAND - Security in the southern most provinces will be stepped up during the last ten days of the fasting month of Ramadan as separatism gangs are expected to resume their attacks on the belief that they will have committed merits several times more than other period of time.

Deputy Army Commander-in-Chief General Udomdej Seetabutr, secretary-general of the National Council for Peace and Order, is scheduled to visit the restive region next Monday July 7.

Colonel Banpot Poonpien, spokesman of the Internal Security Operations Command, said on Thursday that such belief was misleading, and the military would ask the imams and Muslim religious teachers to explain to the misguided so that they will have a clear understanding of what is morally right or wrong.

The Ramadan in Thailand started on Sunday June 29 and will last a full month.
