Military Junta Asked To Reverse NBTC’s Coupon

BANGKOK : -- National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) scheduled to increase the value of its digital TV coupon from 690 baht to 1,000 baht  reasoning that this will encourage all households to switch to digital television reception and not a heavy burden for them.

PBC president Jamnan Siritan said the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) earlier  announced 690 baht coupon is not enough to persuade households to  move from the analog TV system  to the terrestrial-based digital TV platform, creating difficulties for broadcasters.

If it is worth 1,000 baht, the audience will then be able to buy a complete set of digital TV receiver, set-top box and active antenna, said Mrs Jamnan, also executive chairman and chief executive officer of JSL Global Media Co Ltd.

NBTC will soon be mailed to 22 million households.
