Two Commissioners Summoned Over Gambling Den Raids By Soldiers


BANGKOK: -- Royal Thai Police commissioner today summoned commissioners of Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) and Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) for clarification after infantry soldiers raid several gambling dens in Bangkok and the provinces yesterday and arrested several gamblers.

Pol Gen Somyos Phumphanmuang ordered MPB commissioner to report to him today after soldiers from the First Infantry Battalion of the Second Infantry Regiment of the Royal Guards and Bang Khen police raided a gambling den at Saphanmai Don Mueang area yesterday and netted 24 gamblers and seized a number of gambling equipments.

Of the 24 gamblers detained, 16 are women.

Soldiers also raided another gambling den in the jurisdiction of Khok Kram police station and also apprehended a number of gamblers.

Following the raids, five most senior police officers of Bang Khen and Khok Kram police stations who are responsible of the areas were ordered transferred to the MPB pending investigation of their negligence of duties.

Soldiers also raided a gambling den in Lardpraso area but no gamblers were arrested.

The raids and arrests of gamblers prompted the police chief to summon all commanders responsible in each respective areas for clarifications.
