Aussie Man Helps Fight Forest Fires In Lampang Province

LAMPANG: -- An Australian man has found himself making the news in Thailand for all the right reasons this week after he joined locals to help tackle forest fires in Lampang province.

52-year-old Peter Ferdinand, a factory operations manager, started his fire fighting career by putting out fires that were burning close to a temple before moving on to fight much bigger wildfires burning in forests around Lampang alongside local firefighters and volunteers.

After his good deeds picked up praise from Thais on social media a TV news crew showed up to film him in action, and when asked by the reporter why he was helping to fight the fires he said, “It is something I can do to say thank you to Thailand for allowing me to come here and make Thailand my home now.”

It was reported earlier this week that smoke from the widespread forest fires in Lampang had been so bad that provincial authorities had to mobilise water trucks to spray water into the air to ease the problem.
