Bryde’s Whale Sighted In Andaman Sea

Thailand : -- A one-ton Bryde’s whale has been sighted swimming off Ha Island of the southern province of Krabi, prompting excitement among local tourists as it was a rare case to sight this kind of  whale in the Andaman Sea.

The sighting of the whale was video taped by a diving instructor Sanae Yamae, 40, who later posted on Youtube attracting excitement and curiosity by local residents and tourists.

The rare sighting of the 9-meter-long Bryde’s whale was caught in the tape  swimming and jumping out of the water near a tourist boat.

The video was recorded near the Ha Island in the Andaman Sea.

The Bryde’s whales are rarely spotted in  the Andaman Sea.

Meanwhile, a marine expert from the Andaman Fisheries Research and Development Centre said it is likely that the whale might have split  from its group in the nearby Ko Lanta Island.

The sighting of the whale is a proof that the Andaman Sea is clean and rich with natural marine resources, he said.

A local  tourism association of Ko Lanta Island  said the whale was spotted near a  coal transportation route of a new coal power plant project.

He urged those concerned with the project to carefully consider impacts on environment and marine lives in the area as an environmental impact assessment is being conducted on the project.
